Winner's Cup
After learning to sail and acting as my dad’s first mate on a weeklong voyage through theFrench West Indies, we joined a competitive racing team. Considering the mess that was the previously mentioned vacation, we never expected to win a single race. But surprisingly, our skills have vastly improved; enough to earn us a boatload of wins (haha – see what I did there?) and top 3 finishes, even...
Oxnard: Dining In
One of the prime reasons for beach house living is staying in and enjoying the weather and the view, so we wanted to include a few of our favorite recipes we like to make when we feel like hanging out and admiring the scenery from our own rooftop deck. Barbequing is a must, no matter what month it is (something about sand, surf and a good grill that just makes for the perfect night!). Best part?...
Oxnard: Where to Eat
One of our favorite ways to spend a lazy beach weekend is totally vegging out. Whether we’re spending an afternoon whipping up a delicious meal or plotting which bar to hit up for Happy Hour, we Bon Enfants love to imbibe when we are on vacation. Oxnard definitely does not disappoint. Maybe it’s because that cheeseburger you are enjoying comes with a side of harbor views, or the dive bar...
Oxnard, CA: What to Do
To kick off our new travel section, we wanted to tell you about one of our favorite little weekend spots: just an hour north of LA and an hour south of Santa Barbara, Oxnard sits along Hollywood Beach and Silver Strand, and is home to the Channel Islands Harbor and Port Hueneme. It’s obvious why we love Oxnard: the proximity to the beach and harbor means access to lots of water toys, or lying in...
Cookie Dough Truffles
On Sunday morning, with no real projects to work on or errands to run, I decided I felt like baking. I didn’t really care what I was baking; I just wanted to go through the process. So I left it to my boyfriend to pick a recipe, and a full 20 minutes, two cookbooks and very careful elimination of several earmarked recipes one-by-one later, he landed on Paula Deen’s cookie dough truffles....
Bathroom Update - After
So here it is – my brand-new, shiny and very clean bathroom that only took 3 months to pull together (so, so many trips to Home Depot), but it was worth it! This was the biggest home improvement project I’ve taken on since moving in last year, and it certainly won’t be the last, but I feel like I’ve hit a milestone - and I love how perfectly everything came together.
Since I’m useless and...
Lesley's Black Bottom Strawberry Pie
As you learned in previous posts, I think of baking as the ultimate expression of love, and pie is my absolute favorite baked good. In the LA summer heat, my pie cravings of late have been for sweet summer fruit versions. I’ve made a few different strawberry pies, each with an element I like, so I took bits and pieces from each recipe and came up with this winner. It’s awesome for a few reasons:...
Pillow Talk
When we first moved into our condo, I really had no idea how I wanted to decorate it. This was my first, real grownup home (the first that wasn’t 400 square feet, or shared with two other girls) and I wanted it to reflect my new adult (married) status. The problem was, when it came to decorating, I had no idea what my style really was. Was I a traditional girl, with French-Provençal touches, like...
